Labyrinth 1781

Composed for the 6th edition of Labyrinth: The Rites of Spring by the 1781 Collective, this piece was made to be played in a dark, cold cellar of the Musikbrauerei (Berlin). In line with the evening’s scenario, the audience moved between different rooms, each hosting a performance with symbolic meaning. This piece was created to embody transformation.

The piece utilises electric violin, Ableton Live, live looping, and various effects created with Ableton stock plugins and Guitar Rig 6 by Native Instruments.

Wave

This piece is inspired by the principles of sound generation and processing in synthesizers. It begins with a single “sine wave” tone and gradually evolves as different electronic effects are applied to it, building into an almost symphonic climax. While early synthesizers sought to imitate acoustic instruments, Wave reverses the idea: the violin becomes an oscillator, shaped by layers of effects to produce electronic textures.

Element C

One of the early 5 String Theory compositions, this piece marked a turning point in Alexey’s work, shifting from upbeat music toward slower, more introspective, textural, and improvised sonic language. This piece is performed on a rare octave violin which sounds an octave below a standard violin and produces a rich, cello-like tone.

Telemann Fantasia n°1, Largo

This Largo from Telemann's Fantasia No. 1 for solo violin is performed with various sound effects, giving this already meditative piece an otherworldly character. The video was filmed in collaboration with dancer Camille Jackson, who took part in the performance Classical Dreams in a Digital Age, which featured European classical works enhanced with electronics as well as Alexey’s original compositions
